Cyprus’ National Betting Authority (NBA) has issued a blacklist of some 270 online gambling sites to the country’s internet service providers (ISPs) have been ordered to block. The ISP`s have been given 72 hours notice to block access to the black listed sites, which under the new provisions of the law, are considered as offering unlicensed services to Cypriot gamblers. If the ISP`s fail to take actions they will face heavy fines.
The NBA`s actions follow the enactment of the Gambling Law of 2012 in July of 2012, which banned any form of online gambling other than sports betting and the online lottery and keno games provided by Greek gaming firm OPAP. The legislation also banned betting exchange.
Customers attempting to log on to the affected domains view the NBA notice stating that “access on this website is forbidden in accordance with the Gambling Law of 2012. For more information please visit the webpage of the National Gambling Authority www.nba.com.cy.”
